Introductory Post
Hi, my name is Chelsi Latocha and I am from Mannington, WV. I plan on teaching Physical Education and Health in the middle school grade level. Eventually, I would also like to obtain a masters degree in Special Education. I believe that it is beneficial for teachers to use technology in school. Why? Because we live in an ever changing and always growing society that is constantly using new forms of technology. Some skeptics might argue that technology is a distraction for students. However, technology actually presents the future generations with so many more resources that allow them to move forward with the rest of the world. Technology also gives teachers more possibilities that they should take advantage of. For example, iPads and tablets allow students to experiment with their creativity. It can also change the dynamics of the classroom setting. Students can communicate to each other through blogs or chat rooms to complete group based work. As Ms. Davidson puts it in an article from the New York Times, Education Needs a Digital-age Upgrade; “Pundits may be asking if the Internet is bad for our children’s mental development, but the better question is whether the form of learning and knowledge-making we are instilling in our children is useful to their future.”

I strongly agree with your stance on the use of technology in school! Technology has particular importance in the Special Education classroom! I'm glad you are already thinking about a Master's Degree! Fairmont State has an excellent program!
