Texting as the New Language

Rethinking my thoughts

I still hold to my claim that texting is actually creating a new language. I don't think that texting creates bad writers. Texting just creates a new way for people of our generation to write the way we speak. Although texting definitely is more laid back with less rules, it does have some structure. There are filler words like "lol" or "hahah" or even "slash". There has always been concern about how younger generations "can't spell or write correctly," however; it is only the product of a developing language. If we would look into the future twenty years from now, I think we would be very surprised at how different people speak.

"Is Texting Making Us Bad Writers"

I think that texting could actually make writers better. It gives them the chance to write how they actually feel, which could give them more of an insight as to what kind of writing style fits them. Also, spell check helps writers with spelling a grammar. Personally, I'm horrible at spelling, and using the spell check on my phone has really helped me out. I don't think texting is killing our language, I actually think it's creating a new one.

Education and Technology

http://www.usnews.com/education/technology-in-the-classroom

This article by the US News gives all kinds of different ideas about incorporating technology in the classroom.
This image is what I believe a classroom should look like to prepare students for the 21st century. As the three students work on the laptop together, they enhance their ability to work in groups.

21st Century learning in Special Education

Introductory Post

Hi, my name is Chelsi Latocha and I am from Mannington, WV. I plan on teaching Physical Education and Health in the middle school grade level. Eventually, I would also like to obtain a masters degree in Special Education. I believe that it is beneficial for teachers to use technology in school. Why? Because we live in an ever changing and always growing society that is constantly using new forms of technology. Some skeptics might argue that technology is a distraction for students. However, technology actually presents the future generations with so many more resources that allow them to move forward with the rest of the world. Technology also gives teachers more possibilities that they should take advantage of. For example, iPads and tablets allow students to experiment with their creativity. It can also change the dynamics of the classroom setting. Students can communicate to each other through blogs or chat rooms to complete group based work. As Ms. Davidson puts it in an article from the New York Times, Education Needs a Digital-age Upgrade;  “Pundits may be asking if the Internet is bad for our children’s mental development, but the better question is whether the form of learning and knowledge-making we are instilling in our children is useful to their future.”
